Probiotics, What Are They? What Are They Good For?

I’m sure most of you, by now are aware of the growing Probiotic trend. You can’t seem to scroll down Instagram without seeing a Kombucha or two in someone’s hand. Is it something worth looking into? Is it right for you? Well, I’m no doctor, but here are facts that we currently have on Probiotics. Don’t worry, I’ll explain what Kombucha is too!!

The majority of us hear probiotics and think yogurt, but there are actually many different forms of probiotics. Just to list a few:

  • The ever so popular and extremely trendy, Kombucha
    • Fermented Tea
  • Kimchi
    • Fermented Vegetables, usually cabbage
  • Pickles
  • Kefir
  • Unflavored Yogurt
  • Many other fermented food and beverages

Probiotics are live bacteria and yeast that have shown in recent research to be great for your overall digestive system. They are often recommended for people who need help with their gut, but doctors have said that they can be consumed regularly by anyone!! Quick Biology lesson – our body has both good and bad bacteria. The good bacteria is used to help fight off infections and strengthening your immune system, and lots more. Being as Probiotics are good bacteria doctors have begun studies to see if they will help provide us with the same results. The conclusion is they do work the same as the good bacteria our body naturally has in it. Consuming probiotics regularly can help to ward off these pesty issues.

There has been a lot of postive feedback with acne and probiotics. No actual study has shown that probioitics help to fight/cure acne, but it does make sense. If you help to clean up your gut and get rid of the excess bad bacteria bulding up in there your skin will show it. You hear it all the time, but it is the truth, eat for your skin!!! Probiotics aren’t anything new, but doctors have not begun research on them until more recently. Just like anything else in life, better to consume in moderation!

Have a wonderful week and if you haven’t already, subscribe to the blog on the home page!
