Applying highlighter is the easiest way to give your skin a radiant glow. Using a small dab on your cheekbones, brow bone, and down the bridge of your nose makes for a fresh and dewy complexion. A highlighter’s job is to mimic the subtle iridescent sheen of warm weather skin. If it does its job well, the result is glowy, seamless perfection!

There is a catch. Before you throw caution to the wind and start applying your favorite highlighting product, know that the bright summer sun will take any sparkle and maximize it x 1000. Because of this, that super shimmery highlighter you swear by for a night out might look unnaturally icy in daytime light (no matter how much I love highlighter, I don’t want to blind my friends and family members with my cheekbones).

During the day, reach for subtle, finely milled formulas that are easy to blend. Look for a highlighter that melds into the skin instead of sitting on top of it. Here are a few of my favorite:

This rms highlighter is super creamy and lightweight. It has a warm and subtle finish that doesn’t change in any light (not even fluorescent office light). I love to pat a little bit onto my eyelids using my ring finger, almost like a cream eye shadow. It makes me look bright-eyed and wide-awake.

This face gloss is clear. That’s right, it’s completely shimmer-free. Apply it to the high points of your face just as you would with a normal highlighter, and you will get the most subtle, gorgeous highlight. It also doubles as eye gloss and even lip gloss in a pinch.

If you prefer a powder formula, this one will look as great on the skin as it feels on the wallet. The peachy-golden shimmer looks lovely when it’s dusted on the cheekbones, bridge of the nose, and inner corners of the eyes.
